The IELTS test consists of four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The Listening section lasts 30 minutes and involves answering questions based on four recordings. The Reading section is 60 minutes long, with 40 questions on three passages, differing between the Academic and General Training versions. The Writing section, also 60 minutes, includes two tasks: a 150-word task and a 250-word essay. The Speaking section is an 11–14 minute face-to-face interview divided into three parts: an introduction, a long turn on a given topic, and a discussion. The total test time is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
You are now just one step away from starting your test. Please choose the exam section above that you are ready to take—whether it is the Reading section, the Listening test, or the Writing task. Each section is set up independently to give you the flexibility to approach the test in a way that suits your strengths and timing. Once you make your selection, the system will guide you to the corresponding page where the questions are presented clearly, allowing you to concentrate fully on that part of the exam.
In the IELTS test, each of the four sections—Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking—is scored on a band scale from 1 to 9, with 9 being the highest score. Scores are reported in whole and half bands (e.g., 6.5, 7.0).
For Writing, the criteria include task achievement/response, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy. For Speaking, the criteria include fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation.
This overall score provides an indication of a test-taker's proficiency in English.
